I’m a photographer based in Langley, BC, and I create photography for people who want something that feels like them — not like everyone else.

You don’t need to know how to pose, what to do with your hands, how to stand, or even exactly what you want your photos to look like. That’s my job. I’ll guide you through the session, pay attention to the little things, and figure out what works for you rather than putting you through a standard list of poses.

I’ve been looking at the world through a camera since I was around 10 years old. Even before I really knew what I was doing, I was drawn to unusual angles, interesting light, small details and moments other people might overlook.

That creative instinct didn’t go away — it only got stronger.

I studied photography at VanArts (Vancouver Institute of Media Arts), and that’s where I discovered just how much more creativity I had in me. I learned the technical side of photography, lighting, editing and visual storytelling, but I also discovered how much I love experimenting — especially with lighting and shadows, and exploring the different ways something can look or be seen.

I like to take my time with an image — not forever 😂 — but long enough to explore the possibilities. I’ll change the light, move something slightly, try another angle or look at the scene differently if I think there’s something better there. I don’t want to settle for the first thing that works when, with a little more thought, we might create something even better.

That’s a big part of how I photograph today. I want to see what something could be and make it the best it can possibly be.

WHY I LOVE WORKING IN THE STUDIO

Having my own studio gives me the freedom to create instead of simply working with whatever a location gives me.

I can control the light, shape shadows, change the mood, experiment with backgrounds and props, and make small adjustments until everything comes together. If I see another possibility halfway through a shoot, I have the tools and space to explore it.

It also gives you a private, comfortable environment where we aren’t worrying about the weather, changing light, crowds or what’s happening around us. We can focus on what we’re there to create.

For me, the studio isn’t just where I take photographs — it’s part of how I create them.

YOUR SESSION SHOULDN’T FEEL LIKE EVERYONE ELSE’S

I’ve never been interested in cookie-cutter photography.

Whether you need a professional headshot, personal branding, portraits, talent photography or something completely creative, the photography should make sense for you and what you need from it.

Sometimes that means clean, polished and professional. Sometimes it means relaxed and natural. And sometimes it means dramatic lighting, unusual shadows, bold colour or an idea that gives us room to experiment.

I don’t need every photograph I take to look the same for you to know I took it.

What matters to me is understanding the person, purpose or idea in front of my camera and figuring out the best way to photograph that.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE GOOD IN FRONT OF A CAMERA

A lot of the people I photograph aren’t naturally comfortable being photographed — and that’s completely fine.

You don’t have to arrive knowing how to pose or what expression to make. I’ll give you direction throughout the session and make adjustments as we go. I pay attention to posture, expression, hands, angles, clothing, lighting and all those tiny details that are difficult to think about when you’re the one standing in front of the camera.

The goal isn’t to force you into looking like somebody else.

It’s to create photographs where you still recognize yourself — just photographed really well.

SOMETIMES THE CAMERA IS ONLY THE BEGINNING

Some photographs are created almost entirely in-camera. Others need more.

Lighting, controlled shadows, retouching, compositing and detailed post-production give me the ability to take an idea further when the image calls for it. That’s especially important in my Creative and Signature Fine Art work, where what we imagine doesn’t always exist yet.

And that’s probably one of my favourite parts of photography: figuring out how to turn an idea into an image.
