A Recap of 'Christmas in July' at Our Langley Studio

It might seem a little early to think about Christmas photos. In fact, one of the comments we heard most often during our Christmas in July event was: "We've never heard of anything like this before!" By the end of their session, though, people completely understood why we offered it. Booking your Christmas photos early isn't really about celebrating Christmas ahead of schedule. It's about making December easier.

Over the course of our Christmas in July event, our Langley photography studio welcomed babies, dogs, couples, corporate teams, large families, three-generation families, single parents, teenagers and everything in between. Every session took place on the same Christmas sets. The same studio. The same lighting. Yet every single gallery looked completely different. Because great photography isn't created by the backdrop. It's created by the people—and pets—in front of the camera.

Every Christmas Session Tells a Different Story

One of the biggest misconceptions about Christmas photography is that every session looks the same. The truth is exactly the opposite. Every family brings its own personalities, relationships and traditions into the studio. Some sessions are full of tiny giggles. Others are full of teenage eye rolls. Some are beautifully organised. Others are wonderfully chaotic.

No matter who's in front of the camera, our goal is always the same—to capture genuine moments that reflect the people (and pets) who matter most to you. No two families are the same, and no two sessions should be either. That's what keeps photography exciting, and it's why every gallery we deliver tells a story that's uniquely yours.

Why Do We Take So Many Photographs?

The answer is simple. Someone always blinks. Someone laughs. Someone looks away. Or someone hears their name just as the shutter clicks. That's why we never rely on one perfect image. Sometimes the final family portrait is created from several almost-perfect moments. And then there are the moments you could never plan. A child bursting into laughter. A grandparent looking proudly across the room at their family. A teenager finally relaxing. A dog deciding kisses were much more important than sitting still. Those in-between moments often become the photographs people treasure most.

Great Sessions Start Before Anyone Arrives

Photography doesn't begin when the camera comes out. It begins with preparation. Whether we're photographing a couple, a corporate team or three generations of one family, planning makes all the difference. For larger sessions, we create posing lists before anyone arrives so every important combination is captured. That means less time wondering who's next. Less stress. More genuine smiles. And more time enjoying the experience.

Why Booking Christmas Photos Early Makes December Easier

Christmas in July wasn't really about Christmas. It was about giving families one less thing to worry about during the busiest season of the year. Instead of trying to fit Christmas photos into an already packed December calendar, our clients left knowing one important job was already done. Christmas cards. Gifts for grandparents. Updated family portraits. Everything ready before the holiday rush. Your December self will genuinely thank your earlier self. It's one of the reasons so many people told us they wished they'd discovered Christmas in July years ago.

More Than Just Family Photos

One thing that surprised even us was just how versatile our Christmas sets became. They worked beautifully for: Babies and little ones. Couples. Families. Corporate teams. Large families. Three-generation portraits. The sets stayed the same. The stories and families never did.

A highlight for our pet owners was having private studio time. Without other families waiting, unfamiliar dogs or the distractions that often come with busy events, both owners and their pets were able to relax. That calm environment helped everyone feel more comfortable, resulting in natural expressions, wagging tails and photographs that truly reflected their personalities. Sometimes the best photos happen when everyone—especially the dogs—feels completely at ease.

And of course, somewhere along the way, saying "Merry Christmas" in the middle of July stopped feeling strange and started feeling completely normal.
